Most homes have their hot water temperature set too high wasting electricity and increasing emissions
The average annual carbon emissions for an individual in the UK are 4.25 tonnes. The equivalent figure for UK households is 9.96 tonnes. With improvements in energy efficiency and changes in behaviour the figures can reduce – however there will always be something left over. This is where offsetting has a role to play in helping to reduce the impact of our activities on the environment.
With Carbon Passport you can offset your flights, your car's annual emissions or the annual emissions from your home. There are three steps you need to take:
Calculate your carbon footprint using one of our carbon calculators. Our carbon calculators are based on the methodology that has been used in the UK Government’s “Act on CO2” calculator.
Select what proportion of your emissions you would like to offset. We have given you the choice of 100% or 60%. The reason why we have selected 60% is that it would match the UK government's 2050 target for reducing the UK's carbon emissions from its 1990 level.
Confirm the purchase of your offsets and fill in your personalised PDF certificate like this to confirm your offset
We then buy carbon credits, register them on the UK's national registry and then cancel them so that they cannot be sold to anyone else.
